How does the Search for Cooperative work?

Currently the Search will attempt to match cooperatives where the query string matches part of the domain name or, the cooperative's name, city or state.

What information is displayed about each .coop site?

To find out more about a particular domain or cooperative that is displayed from your search, click on the link from the search results and the detail about that entry will be displayed including the Cooperative Name and Address. You will also see the location of that specific cooperative on a Google map as well as a link to the site. In addition, any other domains that the cooperative has will be displayed.

Why is the actual Registrant Contact name, telephone number and email address not displayed along with the cooperative name and address information on the detailed screen?

As a security measure, DotCoop has chosen not to display this information on the directory.coop site. Visitors can go to your actual website to get the most current contact information for your co-op by clicking on the link immediately beside the other data on the detailed screen.

Why does the thumbnail of the website show a blank screen or a screen with a "?" on it?

This is shown when we are unable to connect to the website and take a picture of it for various reasons. If there is no image shown 2 weeks (14 days) after your website has been activated or changed, please contact us at support@nic.coop.

Can I use the link to go to the site if there is a blank screen or a screen with a "?" on it?

Yes, you can try the link and you may be able to access the web site. However, if you are looking for information such as contact telephone or email and the site is not available, you can also go to www.coop and use the "domain search" option to locate the information associated with the account at this time.

I do not want one or more of my websites to be displayed on directory.coop. Can I opt-out of being included on this website?

Yes, simply contact us at support@nic.coop and we can either remove all your domains or just specific ones.

When I first enter directory.coop, a regional map is displayed. How does it know what map to display and what do I do if the map is not correct for me?

We use a number of ways to try and identify which regional map to display. The primary way is to use your IP address to calculate your location. Sometimes the lookup tables that we use can be out of date, and that is why the wrong location is displayed. We regularly update these tables so the maps will become more accurate over time. If we are unable to determine your IP address, we will query your browser. If you have a modern browser, you may get a security request to share your location with us. We do not record this information and use it solely for displaying a local map for you while you are using the site.

On the regional map, there are .coop logos displayed with numbers on them. What do these mean?

These are the number of .coop users in that general area. For instance, if the box has a “6” in it, then there are 6 co-ops actively using .coop in that general area. Make sure your co-op shows up by getting your .coop domain and activating it!

Below the regional map is a list of cooperatives. Which cooperatives are listed there?

All cooperatives in that general area are displayed in Country Name, City Name and Organization (Cooperative) Name order.

How do I change the information on my address that is displayed for my domain name when it is not correct?

All information that is displayed is from the Registrant Contact information that is on your domain registration. This is maintained with your .coop registrar. To confirm your .coop registrar, go to www.coop and enter your domain name in the "domain search" area and review the information displayed. If you have additional questions, please contact dotCoop at support@nic.coop.

Changes are normally take up to 24 hours. If you make a change and it does not update within 96 hours, contact us at support@nic.coop.

How quickly are changes made to my website reflected on the thumbnail that is displayed on directory.coop?

The thumbnail images are regenerated on a rolling basis over a period of 14 days. The images should be updated within that 14 day period. If they are not, contact us at support@nic.coop

What should I do if my address on the Registrant Contact for the domain is correct but Google mapping is not displaying it in the correct location?

Please report any instances of incorrect Google mapping to dotCoop at support@nic.coop and we will determine the cause of the issue and possible ways to address the problem.
